What is a concrete waste factor?
A concrete waste factor is the extra concrete added after measuring the project volume so the pour does not run short. It should be based on site risk, not a hidden markup.
How much extra concrete should I order?
For many simple flatwork projects, 5%-10% is a practical planning range. Use 10%-15% when forms are uneven, the base is irregular, the project has thickened edges, or running short would be costly.
Should I add one extra yard of concrete?
Not automatically. A full extra yard can be too much for a small slab and too little for a large pour. Calculate the measured volume, add a percentage buffer, then round to the supplier increment.
Do I add waste before or after rounding bags?
Add waste before rounding. For bags, multiply the measured volume by the waste factor, divide by the printed bag yield, then round up to whole bags.
Is waste factor the same as returned concrete?

Can this calculator prove a supplier delivered short?
