Example with 10% waste:
measured volume = 1.78 yd3
waste factor = 10% = 0.10
extra concrete = 1.78 x 0.10 = 0.18 yd3

Ready-mix adds one more layer: the order may be rounded by truck, minimum load, or supplier policy. That means a project can have both:
- a sensible waste factor for the pour;
- unused paid yards or returned concrete because of billing and dispatch rules.

Do not use waste factor to hide bad measurement. Measure depth, base level, thickened edges, holes, steps, and forms first. Then add a reasonable buffer.
