Formula and bag count
How the self-leveling compound estimate is calculated
The calculator uses one planning formula: square feet multiplied by average depth, plus waste, divided by the yield printed on the bag. The result is rounded up because suppliers sell whole bags and a short pour is harder to fix than an unopened spare bag.
Find floor area
Length x width gives the square footage that needs leveling compound.
Convert average depth
Divide average depth in inches by 12 so the volume math stays in cubic feet.
Add planning waste
Multiply by 1 plus the waste percentage to cover low spots, edge loss, and mixing tolerance.
Round bags up
Divide cubic feet by the product yield per bag, then round up to whole bags before pricing.
Measure average depth before trusting the bag count
A self-leveling floor is usually planned from the average fill depth, not the deepest single depression and not the thinnest feathered edge. Mark the low areas, measure several points across the room, remove obvious outliers, then use a defensible average depth in the calculator.
If one section is much deeper than the rest, price that section separately and check whether the product allows aggregate, staged lifts, or a different patching material. That boundary is where a simple bag calculator should stop and the product data sheet or a qualified installer should take over.
