A concrete yield calculator compares three numbers before you buy or dispute concrete: the measured project volume, the expected yield from bags or ready-mix, and the actual volume shown by a supplier quote or delivery ticket. That is different from a simple volume calculator. Volume tells you what the forms should need. Yield checks whether the product, ticket, waste factor, and jobsite conditions explain the amount you ordered or placed.

Do not decide a load was short from the invoice alone. First check dimensions, thickness, over-excavation, base level, waste, spill, returned concrete, minimum billable yards, and the delivery ticket.

This is why yield belongs in the buying workflow. A correct volume calculation can still look wrong if the base is low, the slab is thicker than planned, a supplier bills a minimum load, or the bag yield used in the estimate does not match the product label.

Example: 10x10 slab bag yield

A 10x10 slab at 4 inches is:

100 sq ft x 4 in / 12 = 33.33 ft3
33.33 ft3 / 27 = 1.23 yd3 before waste
1.23 yd3 x 1.10 = 1.36 yd3 with 10% waste

With common 80 lb bags:

33.33 ft3 x 1.10 / 0.60 ft3 per bag = 61.1 bags

Round up to 62 80-lb bags. If the store cart only has 50 bags, the expected yield is:

50 bags x 0.60 ft3 = 30 ft3 = 1.11 yd3

That is not enough for the 10x10 slab with waste. The issue is not a mystery yield loss. The buying plan is short.

Example: ready-mix ticket vs measured volume

Suppose a patio measures 12x12 at 4 inches:

144 sq ft x 4 in / 12 = 48 ft3
48 ft3 / 27 = 1.78 yd3 before waste
1.78 yd3 x 1.10 = 1.96 yd3 with waste

If the supplier ticket shows 2.0 yd3 delivered, the order roughly matches the measured volume with a normal cushion. If the invoice bills 3.0 yd3 because of a 3 yd3 minimum, that is a minimum-load pricing issue, not proof that 3 yd3 should appear in the forms.

What is concrete yield?

Concrete yield is the amount of mixed concrete volume expected from a bag, batch, truck, or order. In planning, it helps compare project volume with the bags or ready-mix yards being bought.

How do I calculate bag yield?

Multiply the number of bags by the printed yield per bag. For example, 62 common 80 lb bags at 0.60 ft3 each should produce about 37.2 ft3 before normal field loss.

How do I check ready-mix yield?

Start with measured form volume, add the waste or order cushion, then compare that number with the delivery ticket and quote. If something looks wrong, review thickness, base level, returned concrete, minimum billable yards, and supplier records before drawing conclusions.

Is billable yardage the same as concrete yield?

No. Billable yardage is an invoice rule. Concrete yield is the volume expected from the material. A supplier can bill 3 yd3 minimum for a 1.96 yd3 job without claiming that the forms should use all 3 yd3.

Can this prove a supplier shorted concrete?
