That is different from a simple volume calculator. Volume tells you what the forms should need. Do not decide a load was short from the invoice alone. First check dimensions, thickness, over-excavation, base level, waste, spill, returned concrete, minimum billable yards, and the delivery ticket.

This is why yield belongs in the buying workflow. A correct volume calculation can still look wrong if the base is low, the slab is thicker than planned, a supplier bills a minimum load, or the bag yield used in the estimate does not match the product label.

Example: 10x10 slab bag yield
A 10x10 slab at 4 inches is:
100 sq ft x 4 in / 12 = 33.33 ft3
33.33 ft3 / 27 = 1.23 yd3 before waste
1.23 yd3 x 1.10 = 1.36 yd3 with 10% waste
With common 80 lb bags:
33.33 ft3 x 1.10 / 0.60 ft3 per bag = 61.1 bags
Round up to 62 80-lb bags. If the store cart only has 50 bags, the expected yield is:
50 bags x 0.60 ft3 = 30 ft3 = 1.11 yd3
That is not enough for the 10x10 slab with waste. The issue is not a mystery yield loss. The buying plan is short.
Example: ready-mix ticket vs measured volume
Suppose a patio measures 12x12 at 4 inches:
144 sq ft x 4 in / 12 = 48 ft3
48 ft3 / 27 = 1.78 yd3 before waste
1.78 yd3 x 1.10 = 1.96 yd3 with waste
If the supplier ticket shows 2.0 yd3 delivered, the order roughly matches the measured volume with a normal cushion. If the invoice bills 3.0 yd3 because of a 3 yd3 minimum, that is a minimum-load pricing issue, not proof that 3 yd3 should appear in the forms.
